Revisiting Financial Goals for 2019
July Financial Five – 2019 update with Katherine Liola CFP® from CONCENTRIC PRIVATE WEALTH™
We are six months into 2019, which means it’s a great time to check in with everything that’s important to you. And we like to start with really tuning into what your core values are.
What’s important to you?
This is very important because this is ultimately what we hope drives your decisions. If you haven’t had the opportunity yet to really center on your core values, take some time to reflect on what’s most important to you.
If you’ve already done this exercise, just revisit them again, and really determine how your core values are showing up in your life.
Goals and Intentions
Next, check in with your goals and intentions for 2019 – and even for the next couple of years after. We want to make sure that the goals and intentions you’re going after are really aligned with what’s important to you. Track where you are this far into the year, but also revisit: are your goals and intentions really aligned with what’s important to you? And if they’re not, go ahead and change them. This is a great time of year to be able to do that.
Long and Short-Term Planning
Review your overall plan for long-term independence, but also where you’re going in the short term. This includes everything from your systematic savings and checking in:
- Are you maxing out your retirement plans?
- Do you even need to be maxing out your retirement plans?
- Checking in with your tax professional as far as where your compensation is, and
- Any investment decisions so that you don’t have any surprises in April
There’s plenty of time to change estimated taxes as well as to change withholdings if needed.
It’s also important just to look at what your plan is all about, and adding or deleting things as it fits.
Having Fun and Celebrating Your Wins
Also at this point of the year, we want to make sure that we’re having some fun, so whether you’re a child or whether you’re an adult, make sure that you’re taking some time to incorporate how to have fun every week. If your ideal way of having fun is traveling, you might not be able to do that every single week – although maybe you can – but you can certainly incorporate an element of that so that you can really experience what brings you joy.
It’s also important when we’re looking at this point of the year that we celebrate our wins. There are so many things that happen over the course of a year that it can be hard to remember what made that year special. Ask yourself:
What did I overcome? What brought me personal growth?
During this month just go back to January and try to capture one thing per month that’s been a personal win for you, and jot it down. Share it with your goals so that you can really see this journey that you’ve been on. This is not about a finish line. It’s about that journey to really being your best you and following the path of independence.
Have a fantastic July. We’ll see you in August.
